If you are interested in working on the student newspaper in the fall, this is a great opportunity to learn more in two days than you can learn in a semester. We will cover everything from writing to design to photography and newspaper production.  Housing has been arranged in the campus apartments, though you do not have to spend the night to participate in the workshops. Housing and food are covered by the college.  This is a great chance to make new friends, express your ideas and help plan for the upcoming academic year.  The schedule for the retreat is noted below. Day One

8-8:30 Check into apartment

8:30-9 Continental breakfast

9-10 What is a story and what do you need to tell it?

Traditional journalism and opinion essays.

10-10:30 Break

10:30-11:30 Interviewing and notetaking

11:30-1 pm Lunch

1-3 Putting it all together: writing the story

3-3:30 Break

3:30-4:30 Photography 101

5-7 pm Dinner

7 pm - Group activity TBA

9-10 InDesign: the mechanics
